Residence Two Project Description
This project, in Pennsylvania, is the renovation of an older farmhouse that had no real upgrades in decades. The clients owned this property for many years visiting on weekends and in the Summer to rough it in the wilderness. When the client decided to make this their primary retirement residence, upgrades were necessary.
They wanted the modern feel of an open California floor plan and wanted their collection of modern art and furniture to work well in the space.
We did the designs for them that included removing half of the second and third floors and constructing additons for a Kitchen, Music Room, Master Suite, Sunroom and Laundry. Structurally we had to tie the front and the back of the house together since so much of the floor was being removed.
The walls are finished in a clay plaster in a medium finish, the glass panels for the railings were custom made for the space. We kept most of the original flooring and juxtaposed that with smooth concrete floors with floor heating throughout.
Outside we re-directed the long driveway to tour more of the property, repaired or renovated several of the out-buildings and built a few more. The over-all effect is quite successful.
