Deck Two Project Description
These clients came to us with their ideas for a deck addition to an old farm house we were completely re-working for them. While the farm house was quite old, the clients taste was more modern and they wanted all the amenities available for their retirement home, including a deck that blended well with the newly renovated home and would support their outdoor activities and a hot tub.
The interior of the home has glass and aluminum railings, so to tie the deck in to the designs of the rest of the house we used stainless steel cabling for the railings and extra heavy lumber for the posts. The corners of the deck and where it transitions from one area to another are finished with a stone veneer to link it in appearance to the foundations of the house and the garden shed on the other side.
Modernizing an older home like this presented many challenges such as adding a basement and opening up the interior spaces to accommodate the clients modern art, but the addition of this deck really made the updated appearance of the house a wonderful proportion with the surrounding property. The substantial lumber and stone walls that we used anchored this side of the house and gives the client and wonderful outdoor space that takes them nearly all the way to the babbling stream at the edge of their woods.
